How to use External storage device to speed up your computer

ReadyBoost technique can be used on windows 7 to speed up your computer system by using storage space on most USB flash drives and flash memory cards. In this technique windows creates cache files in your storage drive instead of RAM which leads to faster performance of your system.

Here are steps to use flash drive for ReadyBoost

1).  Insert Your Flash drive and wait for AutoPlay, once it comes click on 'speed up my system' under General Options.

If AutoPlay doesn't come then goto my computer and 'right click'->'Properties' on drive icon.

2).    Now choose ReadyBoost tab and select 'use this device' option. Set space to be used for ReadyBoost.

Click 'Apply' and 'ok'. it's done. Restart to see the effect.
Following is the cache file generated in your drive.

3). For removing ReadyBoost Select 'Do not use this device'.

 Note:
- Flash drive should be more than 1 GB.
- This method will improve system boot and application launch time by 10-30 percent.
- If you are using SSD hard drives then you might receive this message, "Readyboost is not enabled on this computer because the system disk is fast enough that ReadyBoost is unlikely to provide any additional benefit."This is because some SSD drives are so fast they're unlikely to benefit from ReadyBoost .
